Silver Medal – IFIA INV Innovation Competition, Switzerland

IFIA
August 2022
The International Invention and Innovation Competition for IFIA INV Members is a global event celebrating creativity and problem-solving. In its second year, over 740 inventions from 32 countries competed, highlighting groundbreaking ideas from diverse fields like Computer Science, Environmental Protection, and Civil Engineering. The competition, held virtually on August 10-12, 2022, provided a platform for young inventors to showcase their work and push the boundaries of innovation.

My submission was born out of a personal challenge—as a bird owner, I struggled with monitoring my pet’s health. Birds often hide their illnesses, making early diagnosis difficult. This led me to design an intelligent birdcage, equipped with image processing and IoT technology, to track bird health by analyzing the color and visual patterns of droppings. I started with sketches, carefully designing the structure to integrate smart detection and automation.

Bringing my idea to life required more than just sketches. To effectively showcase the functionality of my invention, I needed to create a 3D animation—but there was a challenge: I had never used Fusion 360 before. Learning a new software from scratch while preparing for a competition was both exciting and difficult, but I was determined. After hours of trial and error, I managed to design a detailed animation demonstrating how the smart cage detects illnesses, automates paper replacement, and allows owners to monitor their birds remotely. Overcoming this challenge not only strengthened my project but also added a valuable new skill to my journey as an inventor.

One of the key requirements for the IFIA competition was submitting a 3-5 minute video explaining the invention. This step was both exciting and nerve-wracking! I worked hard to present my idea clearly, ensuring that the technical aspects, problem-solving potential, and innovation behind my project were effectively communicated. Every detail mattered—this was my chance to convince the IFIA jury that my invention could make a real difference.

After intense evaluation, the results were announced—and I won a Silver Medal! 🌟 This achievement wasn’t just mine; it was the result of dedication, perseverance, and the unwavering support of my mentor, Mahsa Eskandari. She guided me throughout this journey, helping me refine my project and prepare for the competition. This medal represents more than an award—it symbolizes the power of mentorship, resilience, and believing in the impact of innovation.

It captures my journey, the inspiration behind my project, and how this innovation can transform pet care for bird owners worldwide. Winning this medal has only fueled my passion for technology-driven solutions, and I’m excited to take the next steps in developing and commercializing my invention.
